Preston faces rush hour chaos as a collision causes mass traffic on the M6 motorway.

A three car collision is causing major delays on the M6 Southbound.

The carriageway between junctions 31, Tickle Trout, Salmesbury, near Preston and 30, M61 interchange, is blocked and traffic is backing up to Broughton, Preston.

A spokesman for Lancashire police said: “Three vehicles were involved in a collision that closed lanes three and four on the M6 Southbound.

“There are significant tailbacks and I’m led to believe nobody has been injured.”

The North West motorway police tweeted that major congestion was expected for the foreseeable future.

They said: “RTC M6 S/B J31-J30. Carriageway is blocked. The traffic is now backing up to Broughton @ J32. Major delays that will take some hours to clear.”
