Cable Street reopens after man in his 40s struck by car in Lancaster city centre

A man in his 40s was rushed to hospital with head injuries after he was hit by a car on Cable Street in Lancaster.

The A6 Cable Street in Lancaster was closed due to an incident involving a car and a pedestrian.

It has been confirmed a man in his 40s suffered head injuries in the collision.

The incident occurred at around 11.19pm today (February 24).

The road was closed while emergency services investigated the area.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "The road is closed could we ask you to make an alternative route please until the emergency services have completed there investigating."

It has now been confirmed that the road has reopened.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance service said: "We were called at 11.19am to a road traffic collision on Cable Street involving a car and a pedestrian.

“We attended with an ambulance, an advanced paramedic and another resource.

"A man in his 40s was taken to Royal Preston Hospital with head injuries.

"His injuries are thought to be serious.”

The incident caused traffic problems in the area and buses diverted their services.

A spokesperson for Stagecoach said: "Due to incident on Cable Street in Lancaster our services are diverted via St Leonards Gate to Morecambe and we are seeing up to 25 minute delays at this moment in time."

One resident in Lancaster said: "We were just about to go out in the car.

"Fortunately someone warned us.

"Traffic is gridlocked near St George's Quay and all around the one way system.

"Nothing is moving."
