Road users are being reminded that a level crossing is due to be upgraded by Network Rail.

The crossing takes the B5275 Bare Lane in Morecambe over the railway tracks outside the station.

It is being improved as part of a £5m project to renew equipment dating back to the 1970s and bring it up to modern standards.

It will also improve the performance of trains on the Morecambe line.

Ultimately, the control of the crossing will be transferred to Preston signalling centre, which will monitor it using CCTV.

The crossing will be closed to road users from 10pm on Saturday May 19 and until 5am on Monday May 28.

During this closure, there will be a signed diversion for road vehicles but access over the crossing will be maintained for pedestrians.

An attendant will be operating temporary barriers.

Weekday train services are unaffected by the closure of the crossing.

However, passengers should check with either Northern Rail or National Rail Enquiries if they are travelling at the weekends.
