Firefighters used two hose-reel jets to extinguish the blaze.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: "The driver was alerted to a problem by a passing HGV who saw smoke and sparks coming from the van driver's vehicle.

"We believe this fire started accidentally in the engine compartment of the van. Thankfully, the driver was able to escape his vehicle quickly.

All lanes have now re-opened.

Nobody was injured during the incident.
