Update: Biker killed in city-centre crash is named

Police have named a motorcyclist who died following a crash in Preston.

The 28-year-old died at the scene, after the collision on London Road at about 7.15pm on Sunday.

Police have now named the motorcyclist as Robert Symonowicz.

In a statement, his family said: “Robert Symonowicz has sadly been taken from us at 28 years old.

“We are devastated at this loss as we believe that Robert still had so much to give in life.

“He was much loved by all who knew him, both his family and friends here in Poland and his many friends and work colleagues in the UK.

“Robert was always hard working and loved nothing more than joking around with his friends and making them laugh.

“He worked in the hotel industry and was a keen runner who enjoyed competing in races.

“He will always be in our hearts.”

Officers investigating the collision are keen to trace the occupants of a white Vauxhall Astra who may have witnessed the collision.

A woman was seen getting out of the passenger side and made a phone call prior to checking on the motorcyclist.

The car was moved on to Salmon Street prior to police arrival.

PS Claire Pearson of the Road Policing Unit said: “We are keen to trace the occupants of this white Vauxhall Astra so that we can speak to them and establish what they saw.

“I would urge them, if they see this appeal, to come forward and contact us as soon as possible.

“Similarly if anyone witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken to us, please do get in touch.”
