Police seek '˜fail to stop' HGV driver

Police are trying to trace the driver of a HGV who failed to stop after a collision with a blue Fiat Punto on the M61 yesterday afternoon.

The incident happened at around 2.05pm on Thursday at junction 9 of the M61 northbound near to Clayton Brook. This caused the Fiat to spin and hit the nearside barrier.

The wagon driver failed to stop at the scene whilst the driver of the car, a 59-year-old woman from West Yorkshire, suffered bruising and whiplash and was also treated for shock.

The passengers – an 18 month old girl and a four year old boy – were uninjured.

PC Glen Hilton said: “It is shocking to think that any driver, particularly someone driving a HGV, would not stop after colliding with a much smaller car.

“I am trying to piece together exactly what happened and how this collision came to occur so I need any witnesses to come forward.

“If you were driving the wagon or know who was, please make contact with us. Similarly, if you saw something that could help, I would appreciate you getting in touch.”
