Motorcyclist dies after crash in Hoghton

The rider of a motorbike has sadly died following a crash in Hoghton, say police.

Patrols were called to reports of the crash involving a bike and a car on Blackburn Old Road on Sunday, July 22 at around 8pm.

A Yamaha motorbike, travelling in convoy with a second Yamaha, was involved in a collision with a Fiat Punto at the junction with Station Road.

The rider, a 35-year-old man from Blackburn, suffered a number of serious injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at hospital.

His pillion rider, a 26-year-old woman, suffered a serious injury to her hip and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Punto, a 20-year-old woman from Blackburn, suffered minor facial injuries.

Police are now appealing for information and are urging any witnesses to come forward.

Sgt Phil Baxendale, of Lancashire Police, said: “These are tragic circumstances and my thoughts are with the rider, his family and friends at this time.

“We are keen to trace any witnesses who might be able to assist with our enquiries.

“We believe the Yamaha bikes were travelling in convoy. If you saw both motorcycles traveling on Blackburn Old Road in the moments before the collision, please get in touch.”

No arrests have been made, say police.

The road was closed for more than four hours while accident investigators attended the scene. The road has now reopened.
