Man on mobility scooter sparks emergency

Fire crews from three stations - Preston, Penwortham and Tarleton - all raced to the scene in Southport New Road at Banks at around 7pm on Wednesday.

They found a man had fallen from his scooter and rolled into the ditch at the side of the busy dual carriageway.

Firefighters rescued him from the ditch and he was checked over by an ambulance crew.

A fire brigade spokesman said: “The casualty was seen by paramedics as a precaution, but fortunately was uninjured.”
