The rolling roadblock on both the north and southbound carriageways was put in place to avoid the animals being spooked.

The motorway was expected to return to normal by 11.15am

However, delays remain for travellers north of Preston with heavy congestion on the M6 around Lancaster.

The Highways agency reported delays of up to 40 minutes for northbound traffic between junctions 32 and 34.
