Four fire engines were called to the scene on Sandy Lane at around 11am on Thursday, June 28.
Firefighters say that on arrival staff at the garage had already evacuated the premises.
Crews set about tackling the fire which started in the motor of the compressor and did not affect the cylinder.
Watch Manager Michael Dawson said: "The mechanics in the garage noticed that the air compressor at the rear of the garage had caught fire.
"So they did the right thing by calling us straight away and evacuating the garage.
"On arrival we found that the garage was smoke logged with the compressor on fire.
"We sent in four firefighters in breathing equipment with hose reels to extinguish the fire.
"The fire had the potential to grow quickly, but thanks to the quick actions of the staff, we managed to stop the fire spreading."
Crews spent around one-and-a-half hours at the scene.
Nobody was injured in the incident.
