Firefighters were called out last night to a blaze involving a derelict motorbike and other dumped items at the rear of Thompson Street.

The incident was at least the third such fire in the space of a few weeks on the same piece of ground involving rubbish which had been fly-tipped.

A fire brigade spokesman said: “These fires are starting to become a real nuisance for residents around there.

“Someone has deliberately set this old motorbike and some pieces of wood alight. We used a hose reel to put it out.

“We will be writing to the council today to ask them to look at this piece of land and see what they can do to tidy it up so we dont keep getting incidents like this.”
