A section of Eastway, in Fulwood, will be closed next weekend (February 11-12), for surfacing work on the new roundabout at the junction with Longfield.

Temporary traffic lights are already in operation in this area, as part of the roundabout work.

The closure will affect the section of Eastway from the Ibis/Phantom Winger roundabout to the D’Urton Lane roundabout, from 7.30am on Saturday, February 11 to 7.30pm on Sunday, February 12.

A signed diversion will be in place, taking drivers along Sharoe Green Lane and Sherwood Way.

Roadworks on Eastway –one of the key routes to and from the motorway network – are jamming traffic in and around the area as temporary traffic lights remain.

New roundabouts and access roads being constructed to housing developments are the main cause of the problems.

The work is expected to continue until March.

A spokesman for Lancashire County Council asked drivers to be patient.

He said: “We’re aware that the temporary traffic lights are causing some delays along Eastway and we’re doing what we can to keep this to a minimum. The work includes a new roundabout, a new footway/cycle lane along Eastway between Longfield and the A6, and new traffic signal-controlled pedestrian and cycle crossings across Eastway.

“If people are travelling in this area, please allow more travel time while this work is taking place.”

The closure of nearby D’Urton Lane to through-traffic will be permanent. Once the bypass opens, a new junction will be created to access D’Urton Lane via the new road - reducing vehicle numbers along the lane.
