A cyclist has been airlifted to hospital after the handlebars of a bike reportedly became impaled in his groin after a collision.

Lancaster fire service is currently at the cycle path near Lancaster University campus helping a cyclist who has been injured in a collision.

This incident is believed to have happened just before 6pm tonight.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “A cyclist has had handlebars impaled in his groin.

“A crew is at Lancaster University waiting for an air ambulance to arrive.”

A spokesman for the North West Air Ambulance said: “We have been called out to a RTC on the cycle path near Lancaster University.

“The incident involves a male cyclist with a suspected leg injury.

“We will be flying him to Royal Preston Hospital.”
