Three injured after crash near Lancaster University

Officers were called to Preston Lancaster Road (A6) close to Lancaster University around 3.15pm yesterday (Wednesday, February 17) following reports of a collision between a Volkswagen Polo and a blue Citroen.

Police believe the Polo was being driven northbound when it collided with a Citroen travelling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the Polo, a 21-year-old man, suffered extensive bruising in the incident, while a 19-year-old female passenger suffered a fractured pelvis. Both were taken to Royal Lancaster Infirmary for treatment.

The driver of the Citroen, a 68-year-old man, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital by air ambulance and treated for serious injuries to his knee and lower leg, as well as a fractured pelvis and punctured lung.

None of the injuries are thought to be life-threatening.

The road was closed for five hours while accident investigators attended.

Sgt Nigel Ralphson, of Lancashire Police, said: “We are appealing for information following a serious collision on Preston Lancaster Road.

“We would like to speak to anyone who was in the area or witnessed the incident to contact police.”
