The North West Air Ambulance was called to the incident just before 7pm on Sunday near the westbound junction three of the M55 near Kirkham. It transported one of the children to Manchester Children’s Hospital. Two other children were taken to a local hospital.

Lancashire police force incident manager Grant Smith said: “The children have significant but not life-threatening or life-changing injuries.

“The two adults in the car are bruised.”
