Thousands turn out for show's landmark 90th anniversary

More than 3,000 people turned out for Chipping's landmark 90th annual agricultural show on Saturday.

Farm animals competed in a number of shows, including best cattle, best horse, best Shetland pony, and best Shire horse.

Meanwhile, dog owners were free to enter their prized pooch in the ever-popular dog show, while children took part in fun sports and games.

Paul Hunt, secretary at Chipping Agricultural Show, said: “It was an excellent day. We had over 3,000 visitors. We were very lucky with the weather and everything went very well, so I’m very pleased with the day.

“The President’s Choice Award was awarded to a Shire horse called Marieth Melody.

“We had all sorts of winners in lots of different sections. In the morning we had Chipping Pony Club doing some mounted games and they did a show jumping demonstration.

“Another thing we had was the always popular dog show, which had a lot of entries.”

He added that the 90th anniversary was a ‘landmark’ for the show, but that a large-scale celebration would have to wait another 10 years, when the show will turn 100.
