The animals were in a field with an empty water trough - but were given a cooling drink by a crew of firefighters from the Blackburn station.

A crew member from the station tweeted: "Crews could hear a horse making a lot of fuss, on investigation he was telling us his water had run out and him and his mates were thirsty.

"We can sort that for them. It's not just fires."

Horse owners are being reminded to check that their animals have enough to drink as the hot weather continues.
