A group of footballers raised £755 by holding a match in honour of their former team member.
The Theatre Boys FC played in the Steve Collinson Memorial Match, with all money going towards Heartbeat, one of the many heart-related charities he had supported.
Steve joined the Sunday League club in 1997 and was a regular team player until he retired having broken his leg in 2003.
Steve stayed a vital member of the club after his playing days as a member of the committee, winning clubman of the year in 2000 – 2003, becoming club assistant manager 2001 to 2004 and club manager 2004 to 2007.
Steve, who had two daughters, died in October 2015, aged 47.
More than 100 family and friends came along on the day to support the players during the match at Ashton Community College. A presentation, refreshments and a raffle followed at the Wheatsheaf pub on Fylde Road.
Lisa Riding, Heartbeat fund-raiser, said: “A wonderful £755 was raised on the day. We are extremely grateful to the Theatre Boys current and old boys team for playing and to all those that supported this super event in memory of Steve Collinson. The vital funds raised will contribute to the rehabilitation services provided by Heartbeat to local people suffering with heart related illnesses.”
