Thank you for the music as tribute band puts on Grand performance

Mamma Mia.

Four decades after Abba won Eurovision, and in a week when the sequel to the phenomenal movie hits the big screen, AbbaMania arrived in Blackpool.

The town was rocking last night as the world acclaimed tribute band of the same name opened for an eight-week stint at the Grand.

An audience spanning the generations gathered to thank Abba for the music which has - and continues to delight for decades.

This was my first journey into Abba tribute land, and what an experience.

Physical resemblances and costumers aside, the sound emanating from the stage was incredible.

As the quartet, and their amazing band, provided two hours of non-stop note perfect hit after hit, it was easy to forget that it wasn’t the original fab four performing down on stage.

From Waterloo to the gentle sound of Chiquitita, young and old were handclapping, swaying in their seats even doing the finger-pointing dance to Mamma Mia!

There wasn’t much scope to dance in the aisles in the dress circle, but those down below wasted no time in jumping to their feet as the first notes were belted out.

You don’t have to be an Abba-maniac to enjoy the endless tunes the Swedish foursome gave us but this is a very happy and uplifting show and is a fitting tribute by an awesome team.

A truly professional show, this was certainly a jolly way to start the working week and definitely worth the trek from Preston.

I can’t wait to get my cinema ticket to go through it all again.
