Supermarket giant Tesco has pulled out of plans to build a new Lancashire superstore.
The Penwortham 24-hour facility at the junction of Liverpool Road and Cop Lane had been predicted to bring a major boost to the local economy.

But in a shock statement on Wednesday, the firm said "following a detailed review" the plans would be scrapped.
A spokesman said attempts will now be made to sell the site.
A Tesco statement said: "“In light of a detailed review of our plans, we have taken the very difficult decision not to proceed with our Penwortham superstore.
"This decision was not taken lightly and we realise that many people locally will be disappointed.
"We are grateful for the support that has been shown for our plans over the years and our priority now will be to ensure the site is sold so that it can play a positive part in Penwortham’s future development.”
