Shannon Murphy, of Walton-le-Dale, will cycle 21 miles through the iconic city trail to raise funds for Variety children’s charity. The 13-year-old, who attends Brownedge St Mary’s High School, said: “I recently got scouted for Junior Miss Preston 2017 and have been given the exciting opportunity to raise money for charity. “The chosen charity is Variety, which helps disadvantaged and disabled children. They build children’s hospitals and provide specialist equipment for children.“I wanted to take part in the pageant because it gave me the opportunity to raise money for charity and gain confidence. “People perceive Junior Miss Preston as a beauty pageant but I would like to prove how much things have changed and how the focus is on charity.“I chose to do the Guild Wheel as it is quite hard.“It will be a challenge but I have done it before. I do quite a bit of cycling in the summer months, so I am prepared.”Shannon will take on the challenge on Tuesday April 4.To sponsor her, visit http://www.justgiving.com/Shannon-Murphy9
