A swimmer will take part in the Great North Swim in aid of Preston-based charity the Baby Beat Appeal.

Sam Evans will take the plunge at the event in Lake Windermere and will also raise funds for the Stroke Association.

The Sales Director at Drinks & Snacks Ltd in Preston said: “I wanted to support two charities which are close to my heart and hopefully through sponsorship will raise much needed funds”.

The Great North Swim is Europe’s biggest open water swimming event with around 10,000 participants in Lake Windermere which is England’s largest lake at 10.5 miles long stretching from Ambleside to Newby Bridge.

Over three days participants of all abilities take the plunge in stunning Windermere over a range of distances which also features thrilling elite races with some of the world’s best swimmers.

The Baby Beat Appeal is a registered charity based in Preston, Lancs and raises money to ensure unborn babies are provided with the latest monitoring equipment from conception to birth.

Baby Beat’s manager Karen Entwistle said: “We are enormously grateful to Steve for his support which will enable our latest project; research into stillbirths and premature labours with a view of finding possible new causes and more importantly preventatives.“
