Update after bomb squad called to 'suspected hand grenade' in Chorley

Bomb disposal officers were called and a police cordon was put in place after a suspectected hand grenade was found in Chorley.

Police rushed to the scene near Botany Bay at around 5pm yesterday (Thursday, March 18) following the find.

Bomb disposal experts from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team were called and a cordon was put in place.

Today (March 19), the force confirmed the "suspected hand grenade" was not a "viable explosive".

"The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team...have confirmed the suspected hand grenade found is not a viable explosive," a spokesman for Lancashire Police said.

"The cordon has been lifted and we'd like to thank anyone affected for your patience."
