A kitesurfer was brought to safety by a lifeboat crew after getting into difficulties in the sea off the Blackpool coast.

The coastguard was alerted that two kitesurfers were experiencing problems in the water in the Blackpool Airport area.

Lytham St Annes coastguard and RNLI lifeboats were dispatched to investigate. They rescued one person from the water. The other had made it safely to shore.

There were no injuries in the incident yesterday morning.
