The University of Central Lancashire’s (UCLan) tourism, hospitality and event management classes of 2016 have started fund-raising in memory of Lynn Train, who died last week.

They described the academic as a “maternal figure” who believed students were the future, and have so far raised more than £850 of their £1,000 target, which is to be donated to charity.

A Go Fund Me page online says Lynn died peacefully two days after this year’s “high-achieving” graduations, which she was unable to attend.

It says: “(Lynn) and her husband Rod, the leader of the event management BA course, were a united team.

“Always to be found together, they offered help and assistance to any student who needed it. Many of us entered into their offices feeling panicked and overwhelmed, and left again feeling reassured.

“Lynn believed that the students were the future, and that we had the power and ability to influence the world for the better.”

A UCLan spokesman said: “Over the past five years Lynn has been a great asset to the division of tourism, hospitality and events with her phenomenal student focus and her tremendous dedication.

“Lynn designed and organised the induction programme for undergraduate students and taught a range of event management modules.

“She was passionate about preparing students for their future careers and worked tirelessly to develop skills valuable for future employment.”

He said Lynn would be sadly missed, and offered condolences to her family.
