A petrol station at a gateway to the M6 is to undergo a major revamp.

The Five Barred Gate station on Preston New Road, in Samlesbury, has won planning consent for a new shop, Subway sandwich counter, an ATM, two public toilets, a seating area and offices.

The filling station, which is close to junction 31 of the M6, will also be allowed to open 24 hours when it relaunches.

The site was recently bought by Euro Garages from Esso.

Applicants said the current 20-year-old garage was looking tired and they wanted to offer better facilities for passing motorists and locals.

The plans were approved by South Ribble Council.
