Star DJs set to shake up city nightlife

Bosses at Baluga, in Church Street, say they wants to “form a new cultural narrative for Preston nightlife”, by now opening on Mondays and inviting star DJs to perform.

The first well-known face to take to the decks will be Radio One DJ Charlie Sloth this coming Monday night.

Baluga hopes its ‘Frat House’ offering will fill the gap left by Cameo and Vinyl, which closed its doors for ther last time on Monday.

General manager Tom Havlin said: “Squires or Cameo as it was recently known, was open as the student night on Mondays for 20 or 30 years and when it closed we decided we’d work alongside a really well connected local promoter to give the students something new. But even though it’s a student night, it’s really aimed at anybody.

“We’ve got some really good people lined up, but I can’t really say who at this stage.

“I can say though that Charlie Sloth is coming on Monday and the acts do get bigger and bigger.”

He added: “I’m confident that us opening on an extra night will be really good. We’re known as a safe place and have a good relationship with the people of Preston.

“Trade in the city centre is good, there’s lots of money being thrown at Preston at the moment, and we want to make sure there’s plenty on offer for people to enjoy.”

The Deltic Group, which owned Cameo and Vinyl is launching its own bid to retain student clubbing cash by transferring the popular Monday Mayhem sessions to its other Preston club - Evoque in Church Street.

All 30 staff from Cameo and Vinyl will also be transferred to Evoque.
