Christmas will officially start in Chorley next weekend as the town’s festive lights are switched on.
Coronation Street star Sean Ward, who played Callum Logan, will flick the switch to light up the town centre on Saturday.
The festivities start during the afternoon with a market on Fazakerley Street where people can buy Christmas food, drinks and gifts.
From 3.30pm, there will be performances on the Market Street stage by up-and-coming bands, singers and dance acts including Chris Atkinson, Kings, Myth of Unity, Dharma, Tiger Heart and Dancer’s Wardrobe.
There will be an early appearance by Sean Ward as the Rock FM presenters quiz him on rumours that he is returning to Weatherfield, an opportunity to sing along with Frozen’s Anna and Elsa, and X Factor star Misha B will perform.
The Christmas lights will be turned on at 6pm with a flurry of snow and pyrotechnics, including a display from the top of the town hall’s clock tower.
Deputy leader of Chorley Council, Coun Peter Wilson, said: “The Christmas light switch-on is one of our biggest events of the year and we hope to see lots of families joining us on Market Street on Saturday as we pull out all the stops to entertain the crowd and transform Chorley into a sparkling winter wonderland.”
A series of attractions are planned for the town centre this Christmas, with the giant ferris wheel set to return from Friday, December 11 to Sunday, January 3.
Astley Hall will be lit up and there will be artistic performances for Astley Illuminated on November 21 and 22.
There will be the Santa Express and the chance to meet Father Christmas at Astley Hall every Saturday and Sunday from December 5 to 20, and family fun and entertainment at Market Walk and in the town centre every Saturday from November 28.
