A Preston recruitment agency has launched two appeals to help homeless people in the city.

Service Care Solutions (SCS), in Starkie Street, provided 50 boxes containing winter clothing for service users at The Foxton Centre, as well as food for its community cafe, in Knowsley Street.

Paul Bradley, lead for corporate social responsibility at SCS, who led the project, said: “When speaking to the Foxton Centre volunteers mentioned they receive a lot of donations in the run up to Christmas but face a struggle in the following months to feed and provide for their service users.

“Our team is passionate about giving something back and we were proud to be able to help the Foxton Centre, which has been working with vulnerable groups throughout Preston for almost 50 years.”

The work with The Foxton Centre is just one of the company’s charity initiatives, as it has pledged to support five causes throughout the year.

Managing director, Richard Freye, added: “In previous years we made a greater number of smaller donation to charities but have decided that by selecting a few local charities we can become more involved and help to make greater difference.

“The Foxton Centre is a local charity that we are really pleased to be working with. We were impressed with the work they do with vulnerable groups including homelessness, street workers and young people is something which as a health and social care recruiter, is something very close to our hearts.

“We were delighted by the response from everyone at SCS and with the amount of food which was donated. It feels really great to be in a position to help and have a positive impact within our community. The centre provides much more than a hot meal by focussing on a range of outcomes such as having social workers, housing specialists and case workers within the cafe, who are able to create long-term care plans for care, support and independence.”

Jeff Marsh, from the Foxton centre, said: “The team at SCS has helped us enormously putting together these donations.

“It is only through the generosity of people from our local community that we are able to carry on with our work with some of the most vulnerable people in the city.“
