Sally and Henry Curzon Smith will host their second fun run this Spring in aid of their disabled six-year-old Rory, who has a number of complex disabilities with sensory, neurological and mobility issues, chronic lung disease as well as problems with digestion.

The couple and their supporters will pull on their running shoes for the event at the UCLan cycle track on April 30 and are inviting people to join them.

Sally said: “Anyone is welcome to join us and we have had an amazing response to the run so far.

“We’re looking forward to getting on those running shoes on and raising some funds to help support Rory’s therapy whilst getting in shape!

“All abilities are welcome, buggies and wheelchairs welcome too.

“Last year was a great day and we’re hoping for more of the same this year.”

Proceeds from the run will be put towards Rory’s Rec Fund. The family have turned to the Family Hope Centre, based in Philadelphia, whose treatment programmes are designed to help children with a mutitude of disabilities and health issues.

Rory weighed just 1lb 13oz when he was born at 24 weeks and doctors were unsure if he would survive.

However, following pioneering treatment with the American specialists, Henry and Sally say his quality of life has been “transformed” and he is now in his second year at St Anthony’s RC Primary School, in Cadley, Preston.

Sally regularly shares Rory’s progress through a Facebook page: RorysRecFund - a journey of hope.
