Hundreds of runners are expected to take part in the Sherriff 10K on Sunday to raise cash for the Bottlestop charity.

The race is dedicated to Philip Sherriff, from Scorton, who died after being glassed with a broken bottle at a party in London in 2012.

Philip’s friend and Garstang fireman Chris Horner is the race organiser and he is hoping for a bumper turn-out to help boost funds for the charity which was set up by Philip’s widow and race founder Jane.

The event, which forms part of the popular annual Bikes and Barrows Festival, starts with a fun run for children at 9.15 am. The main 10k event is at 10am. Both races start from outside The Barn in Scorton’s main street. Entry for the 10k road race, which takes a route out to Forton and back, costs £15 on the day (£13 for club runners) and there is a £2 reduction if booked in advance.
