Rugby team's heavyweight help from Leyland builders merchant

Golden Hill Lane-based builders merchant C&W Berry has donated fifteen tonnes of gravel to Leyland Warriors Rugby Club to help start much needed improvements to the clubs' facilities.

Gary Hill, chairman of the rugby league club, said: “Our club is run by volunteers and we rely heavily on donations and our own fundraising initiatives.

“The donation of gravel from C&W Berry Ltd has allowed us to start the preparation work for the bigger work programme which will see our car parking facilities improved.

"These are welcome improvements not only for our own club members but also for visiting teams and, just as importantly, for the surrounding residents who have to cope with large volumes of cars on match days throughout the season”.

Jo Bentham, Leyland Warriors vice chairman, said: “We are extremely grateful to C&W Berry Ltd for their kind gesture.

“We put out a request to our club members midweek for volunteers to help move the gravel into place and we were not disappointed. Parents and children alike turned out to help and in under two hours the gravel had been moved into place.

"This is all in readiness for the next phase to be carried out which involves moving our storage containers onto the newly gravelled area. This in turn frees up crucial space for the car park development to begin. It's a very exciting time for us as a club as we see both our club develop and our members increase".
