Man’s best friend inspires swim bid
IT has been 15 years since John Addison did any type of swimming but soon he will take on an aquatic challenge to raise money for a Preston charity.
John, who works for Lanes for Drains on Walton Summit Industrial Estate, Bamber Bridge, was inspired by his late pooch, Simpson, to take the plunge.
“My dog, Simpson was my best mate,” said 37-year-old John. “He was a rescue dog so I thought I would give a little something back as he gave me 12 brilliant and loyal years.”
John will take part in the 100x100 event at his local swimming pool in Darwen, and is aiming to raise as much money for the Preston branch of the RSPCA as possible, after he noticed they were in need of help on a recent work visit.
John, who lives with wife, Claire and 11-month-old daughter, Amelia Lillie, said: “We’ve done quite a bit of work at the centre, helping to unblock the drains and things and when I decided to do the challenge I asked them if I could do it to raise money for them.
“I just wanted to give a bit back to them.”
John has lost a stone since the start of the year and has undertaken a strict training scheduled, swimming every day and visiting the gym, to be able to cover the total distance of 400 lengths which he is expecting too take a little over three hours.
“After 15 years of never going near a pool it’s going to be a challenge but hopefully all will be well.”
