The BAFTA -winning star told the Evening Post he had been inspired to do something after seeing the devastation caused by the flooding in the region over the festive period.

He said: “I am really looking forward to coming up but obviously the circumstances, they are very dramatic and tragic in a lot of cases.

“You’ve got a choice you can either do nothing or put on a show, so let’s grab together a bunch of comedians and raise some money and do what we can. It’s a very British thing but, let’s do our bit.”

Bremner said he is out to raise ‘as much as he can’ through the shows kicking-off in Penrith on February 23, followed by dates in Kendal, Keswick on February 24, 25 and finally Lancaster on February 29. He said audiences could expect some of his character favourites from David Cameron, Ed Miliband and Boris Johnson with Louis Walsh in the mix.

He added: “I’m still nailing a few comedians down but we should have four and five acts on the bill. I just want it to be a fun night out and the main focus of it raising awareness of the Cumbrian Community Foundation and the flooding appeals and keeping up their profile. They know where the need is greatest and we’re happy to help.”

All proceeds from the Cumbrian gigs will go to the Cumbria Community Foundation Flood Appeal and the Lancaster concert will go to the ‘Help the North’ flood appeal.

He added: “There are four theatres. If there are other businesses who want to come, match some funding, or pitch in some way on the night that would be great.

“For me it is pretty old fashioned, draw people into one place for a night out, and we’re going to come up and put on a show.”

The shows will start at 8pm, tickets are £20 and can be booked through each venue.
