A rootin' tootin' night with the cowboys

It was pistols right until dawn as revellers enjoyed a Wild West Weekend to celebrate July 4.

‘Owd Nell’s Tavern, in Bilsborrow, was transformed into an American dream, providing an excellent excuse to swill some craft beer, bourbon and juicy cocktails.

Hundreds of fun-loving socialites called on the services of the Canalside Outdoor Bar, which was open throughout the weekend with a fantastic selection of American draught and bottled beers, bourbons and wines.

Visitors were also given a taste of authentic American food, with a Texan barbecue.

Following on the Texan theme, guests took on the ‘Ole Bull, pitting against each other to see who can remain on the ride the longest.

There were plenty of shouts of Yeehaw, as revellers donned cowboy hats and stetsons, with prizes for the best cowboy or girl.

Musical entertainment included local band Donkey Vision, who played over two nights, and New Zealand singer Shaun Preston.

Thatched Hamlet held a Craft Beer, Bourbon and Wild West Weekend. Serving up the drinks were staff Bronte Archer, Lily Helme and Helen Rowe

DJ Darrel also kept the crowds going with his funky sets.

Ann Musella, manager at Guys Thatched Hamlet, said the event was another huge success.

She said: “This is the fourth Craft Beer and Bourbon Wild West Weekend we have organised.

“We found that craft beers and cocktails were very popular, especially with the American culture, so we thought it would be perfect to celebrate Independence Day during the first weekend of July.

“People really get into the American and Wild West theme, as they dress up. They love the rodeo bull. It provides hours of entertainment.

“Guests also enjoy the Texan barbecue, which adds to the authentic feel.

“People like something different and that is what we offer.

“It has always been very popular and everyone has a good time. There is a great atmosphere, with everyone having fun. This year’s event was no exception.

“We get great feedback and we get the same people coming year after year. They travel from other places to come especially, plus we have the locals.”

‘Owd Nells is now gearing up for its next big event - the 9th Pressed Canalside Cider Festival - from Thursday July 29 to Sunday July 31.

Admission is free and includes musical entertainment from Donkey Vision, Shaun Preston and DJ Darryl Edwards.
