A roof has been ripped off a double-decker bus in Lancaster.

Lancashire Police said there were no passengers on board when the Stagecoach vehicle struck a bridge on St George’s Quay just after 11.30am.

The road has been closed and an ambulance and the fire service are at the scene.

Highways officials are also attending to assess damage to the bridge.

A spokeswoman for Lancashire Police said emergency services were called at 11.34am.

She added: “Fortunately, there were no injuries but there is a road closure in place.”
