Roof collapse leaves one man dead and another with 'life-threatening injuries' in Bolton-le-Sands

One man has died and another has been rushed to hospital in an "extremely serious condition" after the roof of a house collapsed in Bolton-le-Sands.

Police were called to reports two people had been seriously injured while carrying out building work at an address in Church Brow at around 12.55pm today (February 8).

One of the men, aged in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene a short time after officers arrived.

The second man, aged in his 40s, was taken to hospital by air ambulance with "life-threatening injuries".

Police said he remains in an "extremely serious condition".

"Our thoughts are very much with his family and friends at this awful time," a spokesman for Lancashire Police said.

"A road closure is in place on Church Brow so we would ask people to avoid the area and for motorists to find alternative routes where possible.

"We are working with colleagues at the Health and Safety Executive, though the matter remains with police while enquiries are carried out into the cause of the incident."
