Robber steals till in terrifying night-time raid

A terrified business owner was robbed of her takings by a thug wielding a screwdriver.

The woman was alone when the robber walked into the Pizza Giulio takeaway at the junction of Lytham Road and Tyldesley Road, Blackpool, at around 11pm on Friday night.

He leapt over the counter and brandished a screwdriver at the woman, demanding money.

He then ran off along Tyldesley Road with the Casio till containing £600 and a UV light used to check bank notes.

Det Con Steve Lucas of Blackpool CID said the woman was shaken but unharmed.

He appealed for witnesses to come forward.

The suspect spoke in broken Engllsh and is believed to be possibly Turkish or Kurdish.

He is described as of Asian appearance, around 25 to 30 years old, and around 5ft 4in tall.

He is slim and with medium length black hair.

Police say he was wearing a long dark coat and was of unkempt appearance. It is believed he may live locally.
