‘Rob the rich’ burglars jailed after £3,000 jewel and computer theft at St Michael’s

Joshua Meighan, 22, and 18-year-old Jack Hunter, broke in to a property in Kentmere, St Michaels, in June this year and stole over £3,000 worth of 
personal possessions 
including computer equipment and jewellery.

As they then tried to make their way back to Merseyside they were stopped by police in Windy Harbour, near Singleton, and arrested.

Appearing at Preston Crown Court, Meighan, of Corner Brook, Liverpool, pleaded guilty to burglary and was sentenced to one year in prison.

Hunter, of Downgreen Close, Kirkby, was found guilty after trial and was jailed for two years.

The judge also ordered the 
forfeiture of the car used by the duo.

Speaking after the sentencing, Det Con Steve Craig, Wyre CID, said: “Thanks to an 
efficient stop check of their car by 
officers, Hunter and Meighan were arrested before the break-in had even been discovered by the victim.

“The pair had ransacked the house and taken personal possessions, which caused the victim a great deal of distress.

“Both Hunter and Meighan have lost their freedom and this should serve as a warning to other criminals who are thinking of travelling to Lancashire to carry out burglaries – we are waiting for you and will do everything we can to put you behind bars.”
