This year’s Penwortham Open Gardens event raised a record total of £4,800 it has been revealed.

It was the third time the event has been run by a team of six volunteers, and featured nine gardens open to the public in June.

Visitors were able to speak to owners about gardening tips, buy plants, listen to live music, buy paintings and art work and refresh themselves with tea, cakes ice-cream and pizza.

One of the charities to benefit from the cash is the Hurst Grange Park Restoration Fund, whose committee members were recently presented with a cheque for £1,600 at a celebratory meal at the Coach House.
