Jordan North, from Penwortham, previously worked at Rock FM from 2013 to 2016, presenting its Drive Time and Weekend Breakfast shows.

The former Penwortham Priory Academy and Preston College student, who studied media production at the college from 2006 to 2008, has now secured himself a slot filling in for regular presenter Matt Edmondson, who is away due to television commitments. The gig forms part of Radio 1’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

Jordan said: “I left Rock FM last year to have a proper crack at it in London and this announcement makes me feel like I’m going in the right direction and proves that the Radio 1 are actively looking for the next new presenters.

“I’m really excited and genuinely flattered that they have asked me to be a part of their 50th birthday celebrations.”

Jordan is starting the role in September alongside Abbie McCarthy, Katie Thistleton, and Yasser, taking the reins on the 10am to 1pm slot on Saturdays and Sundays, with all four presenting two shows each.

Radio 1 Controller Ben Cooper said: “Jordan’s got that great northern wit, that ability to tell a great story, and he’s down to earth in talking about it.”

Cooper added: “You can think of a radio schedule as a football team. What you want is a great subs bench.”

Radio 1 handed Jordan his national radio debut in Christmas 2014 and since then he has gone on to work for The Radio 1 Academy and cover breakfast and weekend shows.
