Art student Rachel Ellis clearly has an eye for a picture.

But her latest work was not on canvas, it was on her new mobile phone.

It was just a quick snap as we cycled along near Brockholes Visitor Centre

On impulse the 19-year-old snapped her brother cycling through a tunnel of trees. And the impromptu shot has been chosen as the latest winner in our Guild Wheel Photographic Competition.

“I can’t believe it,” said Rachel, who lives in Churchtown, near Garstang. “It was just a quick snap as we cycled along near Brockholes Visitor Centre.

“I saw my brother up ahead and thought ‘quick, take a picture.’ I’m delighted with the way it came out. But I never thought it would win a competition.”

Former Kirkham Grammar School student Rachel, who has just completed a foundation art course and is looking to go to university, had never even seen the Guild Wheel until a month ago. Her parents and two brothers decided to tackle the 21-mile greenway around Preston and Rachel agreed to join them.

“The family decided we should get back into cycling,” she explained. “We used to do quite a bit, but because of exams and school we stopped doing it. Now it’s summer we thought it might be good to have a go at the Guild Wheel and after we enjoyed the first circuit we have been round it three times since. To be honest it isn’t quite what I expected, but it’s been great fun.”

Rachel wins £50. Her picture will feature with other monthly winners in a 2016 calendar. Send your photos as JPEG attachments, of least 1MB in size, to picture editor Iain Lynn at iain.lynn@jpress.co.uk, along with your name, address and phone number.
