The Queen’s official guide to Morecambe Bay, Cedric Robinson MBE, will lead fundraisers across eight miles of sands in a sponsored walk to raise funds for local hospitals at the weekend.
The sponsored cross-bay walk, estimated to take more than three hours, will take place on Saturday starting at 3.30pm from Arnside and ending at Kents Bank.
The event has been organised for Morecambe Bay Hospitals Charity.
Cedric has been the official Queen’s Guide for the past 53 years, leading people safely across the sands that divide Lancashire and Cumbria.
Cedric has now guided more than half a million people – including, on one occasion, HRH Prince Philip, who crossed in a horse-drawn carriage.
Jackie Daniel, chief executive of the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust said: “The cross bay walk is a great way to raise money for your local hospital, while at the same time getting some exercise and keeping fit.
“I’d like to thank Cedric for all the support he has given us over the years and also congratulate him on celebrating his 53rd year as the Queen’s official guide.”
The walk includes walking across dangerous quick-sands, although participants are in very capable hands with Cedric.
