Pub wants to build cafe on its car park

A planning application by Steve Robertson at the White Bull in Walton-le-Dale (pictured) has been submitted to South Ribble Council.

Mr Robertson is looking to turn the shell of a domestic garage into a place serving hot and cold food and non-alcoholic drinks. The plans also include building a disabled access ramp and a canopy over the entrance.

The building, which is tucked away in a corner of the car park, is described as a “delapidated shell in need of refurbishment” and, according to a design and access statement posted with the council, it is “currently not used and in a poor state of repair.”

The application is for a change of use from a detached garage to a cafe.

Work would involve installing windows and doors and a complete refurbishment of the interior of the building.

The rebuild would include a food preparation/kitchen area and a serving counter for hot and cold food and drinks.

There would also be a seeating area and a disabled toilet.

The rendered blockwork garage is in the Church Brow Conservation Area but, according to heritage experts, it has no features of historic or architectural interest.

The planning statement on behalf of the licensee, continues: “We feel this is a suitable arrangement of facilities and will compliment the local public house, local businesses and provide an additional amenity to the general public.”
