Project Update: Final element of retail park bid given green light

What is the development?

A scheme for a mini retail park in Fulwood has been on the radar of council planning officers for several years with outline planning permission granted back in 2015. The land had been earmarked for retail, warehouse and gym/health club units.

What has happened since?

Several reserved matters applications have been submitted between then and now as developers tweaked the details of what they thought they could bring to the site. However, nothing has progressed from the planning stage.

What is the update?

In recent weeks a further reserved matters application has been submitted for one of the retail units. The details have been approved this week, meaning all the elements of the wider scheme have been given the green light and development could start. Documents reveal that “Spring/Summer 2018” is tabled for works to begin.

What will the park include?

A supermarket is mooted – with as yet unconfirmed reports it will be an Aldi – alongside a health and fitness club and other smaller retail units. The 7sq km metre site is opposite Broughton printers and includes the former Lancashire Post offices.
