The campaign, called ‘My Shankly’, is being spearheaded by Bill’s grandson Christopher William Shankly Carline, the co-owner of the Shankly Hotels in Preston and in Liverpool.

Christopher said: “These stories are the lifeblood, the history and the DNA of what my Grandfather stood for in his playing and managerial career.

“He was a man of the people and these stories will all capture elements and moments in his life of the very people who he loved to be surrounded by.”

The call-to-arms follows a similar one that took place in 2015 when the Liverpool Shankly opened its doors.

“There are so many fascinating stories that we learned about when we heard from Liverpool fans, just amazing stories and great tales of epic moments,” Chris explained.

And Chris is keen to hear as many stories about his grandfather’s time at North End – with the best bits being incorporated into part of the museum and ‘Shankly Experience’ at the hotel.

His association with the Lilywhites started in July 1933 and included being a part of the team’s promotion to the First Division a year later. Four years after that he helped bring the FA Cup to the city.

Any individuals who submitted any stories used will also get to enjoy a free nights stay for two people at the hotel when it opens.

The hotel is set to open to the public next year.
