Young people from Preston were runners-up in a prestigious royal awards ceremony – after winning a prize for a community project aiming to reduce the number of hoax calls to the emergency services.
The Prince of Wales was joined by a host of celebrities at the Prince’s Trust & Samsung Celebrate Success Awards, which recognise young people who have overcome issues such as abuse, drug addiction, homelessness and depression.
Preston Team 55 were one of just three groups from across the UK chosen as finalists, with stars including Kevin Spacey, Simon Cowell, Thierry Henry and Gok Wan at the awards, hosted by Ant and Dec.
The team was nominated for the Morgan Stanley Community Impact Award, which recognises the positive contribution young people make to their local community whilst developing their own skills.
Oliver Rogers, 21, from the group, said: “Today has been the most amazing experience. I don’t think any of us will forget meeting the people we have today. We’re really proud of everything we achieved on the team.”
