A young woman with a rare illness that makes her body swell has today made a desperate plea for help to pay for life-saving treatment.

Christie Newport has become so poorly with Melkersson Rosenthal syndrome, which makes her face and limbs balloon, that she has even contemplated ending it all.

However, her family was given a glimmer of hope when they discovered that a new treatment for the condition is now available in America

But they desperately need to raise the £12,400 to make the trip happen.

Christie, 33, of Inkerman Street, Ashton-on-Ribble, Preston, said: “I just don’t feel like I have a life any’s like it has been stolen by my illness.

“I’m prepared to do anything to get the treatment because I can’t live like this.”
