The dates have been set for the second Preston City Games.

Following the success of last year’s games, bosses have revealed the city will this year host a three day event.

Organisers announced they will take place from June 6 to June 8, and hope they will become an annual fixture.

The games are aimed at businesses around Preston and are organised by Preston Council in partnership with Preston’s College, the University of Central Lancashire, Shout Network and North and Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce.

They are calling upon businesses to come together to participate in the games.

Mayor of Preston, Coun Veronica Afrin, said: “I would encourage all local businesses to sign up and take part in the Preston Guild City Games.

“Not only is it a chance for people to compete and achieve success in sport, it is a chance for us as a city to show, once again, exactly what Preston can achieve by working together.”

Dr Adrian Ibbetson, academic director of sport at UCLan, added: “We very much see the City Games as carrying on our legacies from the European City of Sport and Guild Year in 2012.

“Last year the inaugural event proved to be a brilliant success and this is another opportunity to further promote participation in sport and physical activity from our business community, which has positives for both the individuals and the organisations involved.”

The weekend will kick off with golf on June 6, and there will be nine different sports including a “solve challenge”. St Catherine’s Hospice has been adopted as the official charity of the Preston Guild City Games 2014, and the annual moonlight and memories walk will be part of the City Games, taking place on June 7.
