A 22-year-old Preston girl was tonight going for glory in the semi-finals of the Miss England contest.
Laura Donaghey, a marketing and PR executive, is taking part in the glittering event in Leicester.
I had to do a lot of marketing of myself and it was a great surprise to get through.
She qualified for the event after winning the public vote Miss Popularity contest as part of the 2015 Miss Preston competition.
One winner will be chosen on the day to go forward to the national Miss England final in July.
She said today: “I’m very excited. It came as a bit of a surprise.
“I entered Miss Preston on a whim. I didn’t win but I got the Miss Popularity vote
“I had to do a lot of marketing of myself and it was a great surprise to get through.”
Laura, who lives in Fulwood, said she had had no modelling experience and entered the Miss Preston event with no expectations.
Now she is on her way to the Miss England headquarters at The Sanctuary Workshops in Leicester .
Contestants have been asked to raise money for the charity Beauty with a Purpose.
The Miss Popularity contest will consists of an interview and a catwalk wearing cocktail wear
